Brief insight into the work
of SOFA
-
We conduct regular free
sterilization-clinics at the transit-home and field-clinics in various
parts of Kandy and surroundings followed up by vaccination-camps.
-
Anyone can get his cat or
dog sterilized free of charge on our account at the University Veterinary
Clinic and in three private vet-clinics working with us.
-
We accommodate abandoned
puppies and kittens and try to re- home them.
-
We catch dogs in town and
take them to the transit-home, which earlier was a Municipal dog-pound,
where they are being de-wormed, treated if necessary, sterilized, and
tattooed in the ear and vaccinated. When they have well recovered, we
return them to the place of capture, but handicapped or sick animals we
keep in our care and try to give them for adoption.
-
For cats we have no
facilities at the transit-home, but some of our members provide a
protected space, where stray-cats can recover after sterilization and
abandoned kittens are being looked after until they are being adopted.
-
We provide free treatment
for accident-victims or any sick animal, may it be a homeless one or a
pet, whose owner cannot afford the cost of treatment.
